In the first Pool F match on day seven of the BDO Junior Women’s World Cup South Africa met the Netherlands.
While the Netherlands controlled the play they had trouble getting past South Africa’s defense and into their attacking circle. Finally in the 15th minute the Netherlands broke through and scored on a field goal by #9 Elsemiek Groen to take the 1-0 lead.
The Netherlands #10 Kelly Jonker had a field goal called off in the 28th minute, but quickly got the ball back and rapidly sent a flick to the right side of the cage to put the Netherlands up 2-0 in the 29th minute.
After failing to convert a couple of penalty corners early in the second half, Jonker scored her second field goal of the match in the 41st minute to increase the score to 3-0.
The Netherlands scoring barrage over South Africa continued in the 48th minute off a penalty corner goal by #12 Caia van Maasakker; and then in the 51st minute on a #22 Willemijn Willemse field goal.
Thus, midway through the second half, the Netherlands took a commanding 5-0 lead over South Africa. The Netherlands kept up their attack and got on the board again with a field goal by Emilie Mol (#21) in the 64th minute. Jonker scored, netting herself a hat-trick, a minute later to make the score 7-0 against South Africa.
The Netherlands had another opportunity to increase their lead in the 68th minute off a penalty corner, but the drag flick shot was saved by South Africa’s keeper. Thus, the match ended with the Netherlands’ winning with a 7-0 shutout over South Africa.
