2010 Masters IPT

“The 2010 Masters Tournament was held in George from the 6th to 8th August and was superbly hosted by the Southern Cape Masters Hockey Association. Castle Lager were the main sponsors and they ensured that the 1000 odd players from 63 teams had plenty of liquid sustenance. It was a weekend that reflected the true Masters Hockey spirit both on and off the field. All participants now have a year to recover from their aches and pains, before subjecting their bodies and livers to further abuse at the 2011 Masters Hockey Tournament in Krugersdorp.”

BDO Men’s Champions Challenge Photo’s

The South African men’s hockey team recently took part in the BDO Champions Challenge tournament in Argentina. The tournament provides the winning team with an opportunity to join the Champions Trophy which features the top six teams in world hockey.

The South African team achieved a respectable 5^th position out of 8 teams. Their results were as follows:

Game 1 vs Argentina: Lost 6 – 2
Game 2 vs Canada: Won 4 – 1
Game 3 vs Pakistan: Lost 3 – 1
Cross-Pool vs Belgium: Won 4 – 3
5^th/6^th Play-off vs China: Won 5 – 0

Well done to the team for some awesome results!

2009 World Masters Games

The World Masters Games are held every four years and is the worlds largest multi-sport event. This is the seventh World Masters games, being held in Sydney in 2009, with 29 292 competitors, with the youngest player being 24 and the eldest being 101 (Ruth Frith of Brisbane Australia). The average age of the 2009 competitors is 50 years old. Competitors from 95 countries compete in 28 different sports, using the Sydney Olympic village as the main venue.

Here are some pictures of the teams and individuals from Eastern Gauteng (South Africa) currently competing in the World Masters Games.

Info on the Eastern Gauteng Mufasa Hockey Teams:

Three teams are participating in the games

Mens Colts side (over 35’s)
Mens Vets side (over 45’s)
Ladies side (over 40’s’)

The teams are made made up of players from Eastern Gauteng, with most coming from Boksburg, Benoni and Brakpan

Results for the first round games:

Mufasa Colts 3 – 0 against Ramblers
Mufusa Vets 1 – 2 down to Mess 45
Mufusa Ladies 5 – 0 up against Reversby Ragers.

2009 Men’s IPT Photo’s

The 2009 Men’s IPT took place in Pietermaritzburg during the month of August.

The A Section comprised of two pools of four:

Pool A: Western Province, Northern Blues, North West & Peninsula
Pool B: Southern Gauteng, KZN Raiders, KZN Inland & Eastern Province

KZN Raiders were the eventual tournament winners after defeating favourites Southern Gauteng 2-1 in a thrilling final.

Men’s Junior World Cup

Photo’s of the South African U21 Men’s Team which recently took part in the Junior World Cup in Singapore and Malaysia.

The SA U21 team achieved the following results at the Tournament where they ended 15th out of 20 teams:

Match vs Japan: Drew 1 – 1
Match vs Germany: Lost 4 – 0
Match vs Chile: Won 6 – 1
Match vs Australia: Lost 2 – 0
Match vs Egypt: Drew 2 – 2
Match vs Malaysia: Lost 3 – 1
Match vs Poland: Lost 5 – 4
Match vs England: Drew 2 – 2 (Won 6 – 5 on penalty strokes)

Ladies Junior World Cup

Photo’s of the South African U21 Ladies team taking part in the Junior World Cup at Harvard University in Boston, United States.

The South African Ladies achieved the following results at the Tournament where they ended 11th out of 16 teams:

Match vs Lithuania: Won 3 – 2
Match vs Germany: Lost 4 – 2
Match vs Argentina: Lost 5 - 0
Match vs Netherlands: Lost 7 – 0
Match vs New Zealand: Lost 3 – 2
Match vs Chile: Won 4 – 0
